THE REGION

Alpe Cimbra brings together plateau villages and the Folgaria-Fiorentini and Lavarone ski areas in southern Trentino. It suits a trip built around groomed skiing, family learning and time in the surrounding villages. Choose a base for the slopes you plan to use and arrange any journey between areas. Cimbrian heritage and First World War sites give days away from skiing a distinct local character.

THE LOCAL SCENE

Alpe Cimbra preserves the heritage of the Cimbri, a medieval Germanic community whose dialect and traditions survive in pockets. The plateau's history as a World War I front line is visible in the forts and trenches now turned into museums. Italian Trentino hospitality shines through — excellent food, warm service, and a pace of life that prioritizes family and community.

GETTING THERE

Verona is the nearest airport highlighted by the tourism authority. A rail-based journey can continue through Rovereto or Trento, with onward buses or a prearranged taxi to the plateau. Compare the connection to your particular village and accommodation; Folgaria and Lavarone have different arrival routes.

For a driving trip, use the destination’s directions and allow for winter roads. For public transport, match the current bus timetable to your train and check the last connection before choosing your arrival time.

WHEN TO GO

Plan for a winter trip into early spring, with the current lift and snow report guiding your ski days. Groomed slopes, Nordic skiing and village outings give families and mixed-ability groups several ways to spend the day. Choose your travel dates around the experience you want, with flexibility for weather and which facilities are operating.

BEYOND THE SLOPES

The region offers much more than skiing. Here's what else to explore:

🎭

Fort Belvedere Museum

Culture

Restored WWI Austro-Hungarian fortress with exhibitions on the Great War's alpine front

🏔️

Lago di Lavarone

Outdoor

A lakeside setting for a walk and a break from skiing. Use the shore paths open for your visit; seasonal lake activities depend on local conditions.

🎭

Cimbrian heritage in Lusérn

Culture

Explore the village setting and the Cimbrian language and traditions that give the plateau its distinctive cultural identity.

🍽️

Trentino food experiences

Dining

Try regional dishes or a local tasting during your stay; ask about cooking events if you would like a hands-on introduction.

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦

Family snow areas

Family

Compare the destination’s learning areas, baby parks and sledging or tubing options around the village where you stay.

WHERE TO STAY

Choose between a Folgaria base and a Lavarone stay around the ski area you plan to use. Residence Stella near Costa suits travelers who want a kitchenette and ski storage, while Hotel Vittoria offers a central Folgaria hotel base. Hotel Bertoldi is a Lavarone option with wellness facilities.

Hotel du Lac provides rooms and apartment choices by Lake Lavarone. For a mountain stay on the Folgaria slopes, Rifugio Stella d’Italia offers private-bath rooms and on-site dining. Match the room category and arrival arrangements to your group; compare private rentals by their actual address, cooking facilities and daily ski-area journey.

THE FOOD SCENE

Trentino mountain cooking and regional produce shape the local dining choices. Rifugio Stella d’Italia at Sommo Alto offers hearty refuge cooking, while Maso Cimbro in Folgaria’s historic centre suits a lighter meal of regional cured meats and cheeses with local wine.

APRÈS & NIGHTLIFE

Après-ski is family-friendly and relaxed. The base area bars in Folgaria serve spritzes and hot chocolate. In the village, enotecas and caffè bars provide a warm Italian atmosphere for afternoon drinks. The scene is social but calm — families and couples rather than party crowds. Evening dining is the main social event.

INSIDER TIPS

  • 💡Choose your accommodation and lesson meeting point around the ski area you plan to use.
  • 💡Use the current map to distinguish learning slopes from the champion pistes.
  • 💡Pair skiing with plateau villages, regional food or First World War heritage.
