THE REGION

Avoriaz sits within the Portes du Soleil, a large ski network linking French and Swiss mountain destinations. The local Avoriaz area and the wider network have different ticket coverage and opening schedules; choose the scale of your ski day to suit your group.

THE LOCAL SCENE

The car-free village has a strong snowboard and freestyle identity, with snowparks and forest features such as The Stash. After skiing, choose a terrace, brasserie or Savoyard meal in the village; the existing restaurant picks give you different settings without a separate drive.

GETTING THERE

Geneva is the main international gateway, with Lyon offering another airport option and a longer onward transfer. Book ground transport around the actual arrival point: Avoriaz’s upper welcome area and the lower Prodains cable-car station are different destinations.

Drivers can reach the upper resort entrance, unload and use indoor or outdoor parking. The village itself is car-free; in winter, reception can direct you to sleigh or snow-vehicle transport for luggage and the final journey to your accommodation.

Alternatively, the Prodains Express links the valley near Morzine with Avoriaz. Check its timetable and ticket arrangements before choosing a late arrival or a valley base, and allow time for the journey from the upper station to your property.

WHEN TO GO

Plan the main ski holiday around winter through spring. Avoriaz may offer limited early openings when conditions allow; those do not establish full access to the wider Portes du Soleil. Use the operator’s schedule for your dates and the connections you want.

Holiday weeks bring a lively family atmosphere and stronger demand for accommodation and lessons. Compare quieter dates outside the holidays, and keep late-season plans flexible around snow and open lifts. Summer offers a separate mountain trip with hiking, biking and other activities.

The region offers much more than skiing. Here's what else to explore:

WHERE TO STAY

Car-free Avoriaz has both hotels and apartment residences. Hôtel des Dromonts offers rooms, suites, restaurants and a spa; L’Amara combines apartment space with a pool and wellness facilities. Électra suits self-catering ski stays on the heights of Avoriaz, with escalators to the centre. Belambra Les Cimes du Soleil offers a club-hotel stay with winter meal packages and children’s programs. Choose the room format and meal arrangement that suit your group, and coordinate luggage and arrival with the property.
