THE REGION

Brides-les-Bains sits at 600m in the Tarentaise Valley, serving as the lowest and most affordable gateway into Les 3 Vallées — the world's largest linked ski area with 600 km of pistes. This charming spa town has been a thermal wellness destination since the 19th century, earning its reputation for healing mineral waters long before skiing arrived. The Olympe gondola whisks skiers up to Méribel in 25 minutes, connecting to the vast 3 Vallées network spanning Courchevel, Méribel, Les Menuires, and Val Thorens.

THE LOCAL SCENE

Brides-les-Bains has a Savoyard dining tradition alongside the lighter and more varied cooking associated with a spa-town stay. La Fabrik keeps the regional restaurant-and-bar option straightforward; Le 26 combines seasonal market cooking with Savoyard cheese dishes and international influences.

GETTING THERE

Geneva, Lyon and Chambéry are regional airport options. Rail travellers can arrive at Moûtiers-Salins-Brides-les-Bains and arrange the final bus or taxi journey to the village. Check seasonal transfers and allow for winter road conditions. Once in Brides, plan each ski day around the Olympe gondola’s operating times.

WHEN TO GO

Plan a ski stay around both the Olympe gondola calendar and the mountain sectors you want to use; their closing dates can differ. Midwinter generally provides the main ski season. The thermal spa and summer lift services have their own seasonal calendars, so book those around the current offering.

BEYOND THE SLOPES

The region offers much more than skiing. Here's what else to explore:

WHERE TO STAY

Choose a village hotel such as Le Golf, Amélie or Altis Val Vert, or compare B&B HOME at the former Grand Hôtel des Thermes for private rooms and shared facilities. Résidence Eureca provides studios and apartments with kitchenettes near Olympe. Plan ski days around the gondola, and check spa admission and meal inclusions with the selected property.

THE FOOD SCENE

Village dinners can stay simple and local: La Fabrik on Rue Emile Machet is a Savoyard restaurant and bar, while Le 26 on the same street offers seasonal cooking, regional cheese specialties and a broader mix of dishes. Le 26 also offers takeaway, useful for a quiet evening at your accommodation.

APRÈS & NIGHTLIFE

For an easy evening in Brides-les-Bains, return to the village for a drink and dinner at La Fabrik or a meal at Le 26. If you stay in Méribel for evening dining or nightlife, arrange a separate return: the Olympe follows a daytime operating timetable, so it should not be treated as late-night transport.

INSIDER TIPS

  • 💡Choose a pass that covers your intended mountain area and Olympe journeys; do not assume a free lift ride.
  • 💡Plan your last mountain run around the return gondola. Arrange separate transport if staying in Méribel into the evening.
  • 💡Compare a village apartment and local food shopping if self-catering suits your group.
