THE REGION

The Poconos combine skiing with lodge stays, indoor waterparks, shopping and a wide choice of family activities. At Camelback, snowmaking supports the winter offering, while Aquatopia gives families another way to spend the day. Conditions and open terrain still depend on the weather. Base the trip around the mountain report and the activities your group actually wants.

THE LOCAL SCENE

The Poconos have a distinctly Mid-Atlantic resort culture—less pretentious than New England, more accessible than exclusive. The region draws a diverse crowd from the cities: families, couples on weekend escapes, friend groups looking for outdoor activity without major commitment. The vibe is energetic and sometimes crowded, but genuinely welcoming. Locals include hospitality workers who've built careers in the resort industry and retirees who moved here for the mountain setting. There's no ski-bum culture to speak of—this is resort country, and everyone understands that.

GETTING THERE

Reach Tannersville via I-80 and follow the resort’s directions for the final mountain approach. Allow roughly a couple of hours or more from New York City or Philadelphia, with extra time for traffic and winter conditions. Choose the parking area for your activity and allow time for walking or the resort connection before a lesson. Check current parking options and charges with Camelback.

WHEN TO GO

Midwinter is the main planning window. Cold periods help snowmaking, while warmer spells can change the available terrain. Midweek generally offers a calmer experience than holidays and weekends. For an evening session, check the current lift schedule and the access included in your ticket.

BEYOND THE SLOPES

The region offers much more than skiing. Here's what else to explore:

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦

Camelback Lodge Aquatopia Waterpark

Family

Massive indoor waterpark at the resort. Great for non-ski days, young kids, or when snow conditions are marginal.

🎭

Tannersville outlet shopping

Culture

Outlet shopping is an easy option for a break from mountain activities.

🏔️

Pocono Mountains Visitors Bureau Activities

Outdoor

The region offers ice fishing, snowmobiling, and other winter activities beyond skiing.

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦

Camelbeach Mountain Waterpark

Family

Outdoor summer waterpark at the resort base. Reason to return when the snow melts.

🧘

Resort downtime

Wellness

Build in a relaxed meal or time at your accommodation between ski and waterpark sessions.

🎭

Pocono Raceway Tours

Culture

A regional motorsport venue; check its event and visitor calendar before planning a separate outing.

🏔️

Delaware Water Gap

Outdoor

National Recreation Area with scenic views and winter hiking opportunities. About 30 minutes from resort.

WHERE TO STAY

Camelback Lodge’s general listing, 3-Bedroom Grand Loft and King Premier Suite are choices within the same resort. Compare bedroom layout, kitchen facilities and Aquatopia admission allocation when booking. Dogs are accepted in selected rooms under the resort’s pet policy. Days Inn by Wyndham Tannersville is an off-resort alternative with breakfast and room microwaves/refrigerators; plan your transport to Camelback separately.

THE FOOD SCENE

At the resort, Trails End Pub & Grille offers a sit-down mountainside meal and drinks, while Wood Fired Graffiti Pizza is a casual family option on the lower level of Camelback Lodge near Aquatopia and the arcade. Off resort, Barley Creek Brewing Company in Tannersville combines a full meal with its brewery and distillery. Desaki is on Route 611 in Swiftwater, with sushi and interactive hibachi cooking for a dinner outing that requires separate transport.

APRÈS & NIGHTLIFE

Trails End Pub & Grille combines a mountainside setting, local drinks and outdoor fire-pit seating for a relaxed finish to the ski day. Barley Creek Brewing Company is an off-resort option in Tannersville when you want a full meal with locally made beer or spirits. Choose the setting around where you are staying and how you will get back.

INSIDER TIPS

  • 💡Compare the complete lodging and waterpark package for your group.
  • 💡Allow time for parking, equipment fitting and the correct lesson meeting point.
  • 💡Consider midweek for a quieter trip, and check the mountain report before traveling.
