THE REGION

Courchevel is part of Savoie’s Les 3 Vallées network. Its six villages range from the luxury concentration of 1850 to Moriond, Village, Le Praz, La Tania and Saint-Bon. The village you book shapes your morning lift, lesson meeting point and evening atmosphere.

Local terrain combines gentle learning slopes and cruising with demanding upper-mountain options. Wider-valley exploration depends on your pass, ability and open connections; plan the return lifts before travelling far from your base.

THE LOCAL SCENE

Courchevel 1850 is a world unto itself — Michelin-starred restaurants, designer boutiques, and a clientele that arrives by helicopter. But beyond the glamour, the lower villages retain authentic Savoyard character. Le Praz (1300) hosted the 1992 Olympic ski jumping and maintains a genuine village feel with traditional chalets, local fromageries, and a warm community spirit.

GETTING THERE

Moûtiers is the rail gateway, with an onward bus or taxi to your chosen Courchevel village. Geneva, Lyon and Chambéry are airport options; compare the complete transfer and allow extra time during winter storms and busy changeover days.

Free resort shuttles link the villages. Check the stop and seasonal timetable for your accommodation, lessons and evening plans, especially when staying in a different village from your meeting point.

WHEN TO GO

Winter into spring is the main ski-planning period, with early and late visits depending on which sectors and links operate. Christmas and school holidays are busy periods; spring brings longer days and changing snow conditions. Use the current lift and piste report when planning a trip across the wider valleys.

BEYOND THE SLOPES

The region offers much more than skiing. Here's what else to explore:

WHERE TO STAY

Compare the village and the exact property access before choosing a Courchevel stay. In 1850, Airelles, Le K2 Palace and Le Chabichou offer on-slope hotel stays with dining and spa facilities. Hôtel Edelweiss is a Moriond option with breakfast, family-room choices and a short walk to the lifts.

Le Moriond provides a named residence option to enquire about, but its Maeva channel was not accepting bookings when checked. Confirm available dates, unit layout and cooking facilities before planning around it. Compare total quotes and included services rather than assuming one village is always cheaper.

THE FOOD SCENE

Courchevel offers both a deliberate restaurant evening and a mountain lunch built around the ski day. In 1850, Le Chabichou serves gastronomic cuisine, while La Saulire pairs a cosy chalet setting with French cooking and a substantial wine cellar.

For lunch on the slopes, Le Bel Air belongs to Moriond at the Ariondaz gondola arrival, with a sunny terrace and traditional Savoyard choices. Le Cap Horn, by the 1850 altiport, offers a broader menu for mixed groups. Choose the venue’s village and access as carefully as the menu.

APRÈS & NIGHTLIFE

Decide whether the group wants a terrace stop or a village evening before the last runs. Le Bel Air’s terrace fits a Moriond mountain stop during restaurant operation; La Saulire in 1850 suits a slower dinner with wine.

Courchevel’s villages give evenings different settings, so plan the return to your accommodation around the venue you choose. Check current menus and reservations rather than assuming one price range across the resort.

INSIDER TIPS

  • 💡Compare village atmosphere and your first lift before choosing accommodation.
  • 💡Use the current map and return-lift times when exploring Les 3 Vallées.
  • 💡Consider Aquamotion for time away from skiing; check its activities and booking options.
