THE REGION

The North Shore Mountains rise directly from Vancouver harbour, creating one of the world's most dramatic urban-wilderness interfaces. Cypress, Grouse, and Seymour form a trio of ski areas within minutes of downtown Vancouver.

The 2010 Winter Olympics put Cypress on the global stage when it hosted freestyle skiing and snowboarding events. The Coast Mountains here receive enormous Pacific moisture, creating abundant but warm snow.

THE LOCAL SCENE

Cypress is a locals' mountain—Vancouver residents who can be on the slopes within an hour of leaving work. The vibe is casual and unpretentious.

GETTING THERE

Cypress is a day-trip mountain in West Vancouver, reached by the mountain access road from the city. Vancouver International Airport (YVR) is the regional air gateway. Allow time for city traffic as well as the uphill drive.

Choose accommodation around the rest of your Vancouver visit and plan the journey to the mountain separately. Use Cypress’s current access information for transport choices, road conditions and vehicle requirements.

WHEN TO GO

January and February offer the most consistent conditions. Night skiing runs several evenings per week and is a signature Cypress experience.

BEYOND THE SLOPES

The region offers much more than skiing. Here's what else to explore:

🎭

Vancouver Sightseeing

Culture

World-class city amenities within 30 minutes

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦

Capilano Suspension Bridge

Family

Famous swaying bridge through old-growth forest

🏔️

North Shore Hiking

Outdoor

Extensive trail networks through the Coast Mountains

WHERE TO STAY

No lodging at the ski area—visitors stay in Vancouver or North Shore communities. This is a day-trip destination.

THE FOOD SCENE

The base lodge has typical cafeteria fare. For anything more, eat in Vancouver—which has one of North America's best food scenes.

APRÈS & NIGHTLIFE

The mountain lodge offers basics. Real après happens in Vancouver—the craft beer scene is outstanding.

INSIDER TIPS

  • 💡Night skiing is the signature Cypress experience—city lights below while you ski
  • 💡The terrain parks are Olympic-quality
  • 💡Don't fight morning traffic—arrive early or use night skiing
