THE REGION

The Dolomites rise from northeastern Italy in dramatic limestone towers, with UNESCO-listed landscapes and valleys shaped by Italian, German-speaking and Ladin cultures.

Dolomiti Superski brings twelve ski areas into one pass network. They are not all connected by slopes and lifts. Choose a valley as your base and distinguish the linked Sellaronda areas from separate destinations such as Cortina before planning daily travel.

THE LOCAL SCENE

Culture and language change between the valleys: Italian, German and Ladin traditions all shape the region. Mountain huts, village cafés and hotel restaurants offer different ways to experience local cooking, from speck and dumplings to pastries and regional Italian dishes.

GETTING THERE

Choose your ski area and village before comparing flights. Venice can suit Cortina and the eastern Dolomites, while Verona or Innsbruck may suit other valleys; a single network-wide airport journey is misleading. Rail and bus combinations also depend on the destination valley.

Check the final bus or booked transfer to your accommodation and the road conditions for any mountain passes. A Dolomiti Superski pass links ticket access, not every valley’s transport.

WHEN TO GO

Winter opening and closing dates vary between the twelve areas and the links used by ski circuits. For a Sellaronda trip, check the whole circuit and your access lift; one open mountain does not establish a complete circuit. Holiday periods can be busy, while spring conditions vary with elevation and aspect.

BEYOND THE SLOPES

The region offers much more than skiing. Here's what else to explore:

🏔️

Sella Ronda Circuit

Outdoor

A ski circuit around the Sella massif linking Val Gardena, Alta Badia, Arabba and Val di Fassa. Plan the full journey around your ability, open connections and the return to your starting valley.

🎭

Lagazuoi WW1 Tunnels

Culture

The Lagazuoi area preserves First World War history. Museum trails and tunnels have seasonal conditions and access requirements; a cable-car ticket does not establish that a walking route is open.

🏔️

Marmolada Glacier

Outdoor

The Queen of the Dolomites rises to 3,342m with views across the entire range.

WHERE TO STAY

Choose a valley and village around the ski areas you want to use. Aman Rosa Alpina is in San Cassiano, while Sassongher and Posta Zirm are in Corvara, Alta Badia. Garni La Tambra is in Selva di Val Gardena, with walking access to Sella Ronda lifts. Compare the particular hotel’s lift route, room format and meal arrangements, and confirm seasonal opening and availability before booking.

THE FOOD SCENE

Mountain dining is a rewarding part of a Dolomites ski trip: Lagazuoi pairs regional cooking with summit views, Averau brings Ampezzo and Friulian traditions to the 5 Torri area, and Club Moritzino offers fish-focused dining on Piz La Ila. In the valleys, Baita Fraina near Cortina and The Grill at Aman Rosa Alpina offer different settings for a planned meal. Choose venues around the sector you are skiing and its lift connections.

APRÈS & NIGHTLIFE

There is a choice of pace: Club Moritzino combines a mountain restaurant with après on Piz La Ila, while Cortina’s Pasticceria Embassy suits a town aperitivo. Check mountain venues’ access and operating times before lingering over a drink.

INSIDER TIPS

  • 💡Choose a valley and check its local map before choosing lodging.
  • 💡Allow enough time to return to your starting valley on a ski circuit.
  • 💡Book popular rifugio meals and confirm the lift or walking access required.
  • 💡Compare the local-area pass with the network pass for the skiing you actually plan.

OVERNIGHT STAYS & CAMPERVANS

For Dolomiti Superski, compare a booked room or rental around Cortina d'Ampezzo with a designated campsite that accepts your vehicle and winter dates. Choose your base around the daily mountain journey and the power, water and indoor facilities you need.

Book a designated overnight place for your vehicle and dates. Day parking does not provide permission to camp.

Sources & planning context

Dolomiti Superski is a 12-area network, so one base, summit, and vertical range would be misleading.

The network shares pass access, but not all areas are connected by lifts and slopes. Choose your valley, operating mountain and any circuit links before booking.
