THE REGION

Teton Valley lies on the western side of the Teton Range, with Driggs, Victor and Tetonia providing town bases below Grand Targhee. The resort itself is in Wyoming, reached through Idaho. Open agricultural country, mountain scenery and a compact ski village give the area a different feel from the Jackson side of the range.

Choose slopeside lodging for a short route to the lifts, or a valley stay for more room and town dining. Winter travel time matters: lodging in Jackson adds a Teton Pass crossing to the ski day.

THE LOCAL SCENE

Grand Targhee’s base village makes it easy to keep meals close to the skiing. Snorkels Cafe is a coffee-and-pastry stop, Wild Bill’s Grill offers pizza and other casual lunches, and Powder Cache provides a more leisurely meal with a fireplace and mountain views.

The Trap is the natural base-area meeting point for après drinks and regional beer. Its winter daytime service is adults-only, so families should check the current age policy. Check seasonal restaurant service before planning an evening at the resort.

Down in Driggs, Agave Family Mexican Restaurant on North Main Street offers a relaxed town-dinner option. Allow for the mountain-road return if staying slopeside, and choose where to eat around your accommodation and transport plans.

GETTING THERE

Jackson Hole and Idaho Falls airports are the main nearby choices. Allow roughly 1–2 hours by road in favourable conditions and more during storms. Jackson access crosses Teton Pass; Idaho Falls approaches from the Idaho side. Check road reports before setting off and leave room for delays. Salt Lake City is a longer drive and is best weighed against flight choice and your wider itinerary.

Grand Targhee offers private airport transfers and a winter Ride GTR service from Jackson and Teton Village. In Teton Valley, compare the resort shuttle with driving from your accommodation. Public park-and-ride is at Driggs Transit Center or the 5th Street Skate Park; lodging stops are not public parking areas. Confirm the season’s stops, fares and return service before choosing a car-free stay.

WHEN TO GO

January and February suit a cold, snow-focused trip; March brings longer daylight and can mix fresh snow with spring conditions. Expect more demand around holidays and storm weekends. Early- and late-season terrain depends on snow and the operating plan, so use the current report when choosing dates. Summer adds lift-served biking, scenic rides and hiking on seasonal schedules.

BEYOND THE SLOPES

The region offers much more than skiing. Here's what else to explore:

🏔️

Grand Teton National Park

Outdoor

Plan a separate day on the Jackson side of the range for winter walks or Nordic outings, checking road access and park conditions.

🏔️

Teton Valley Trails

Outdoor

Extensive Nordic skiing and snowshoe trails throughout the valley floor

🏔️

Caribou-Targhee National Forest

Outdoor

Backcountry outings for snowmobiling and cross-country skiing; choose a route and operator suited to your experience.

🎭

Grand Teton Brewing Company

Culture

Local craft brewery in Victor with taproom and tours

🧘

Resort Guest Pool and Hot Tub

Wellness

Grand Targhee lodging guests can use the resort pool and hot tub when open. Check guest access and seasonal maintenance with your reservation.

🏔️

Wildlife Viewing

Outdoor

Moose, elk, and deer common throughout the valley; wolves occasionally spotted

WHERE TO STAY

For a resort-base stay, compare Targhee Lodge’s two-queen rooms with Teewinot’s king or two-queen rooms. Both put lifts, resort dining and the shared guest pool and hot tub nearby. Teewinot rooms have a mini-fridge and microwave; plan a separate rental if a full kitchen is essential.

In the valley, Teton Valley Cabins offers simple rooms and kitchenette options on the road from Driggs to Grand Targhee. Grand Valley Lodging is a named local manager of rentals in and near Driggs: compare the actual address, layout and kitchen equipment rather than assuming every property has the same facilities.

Fin & Feather Inn in Victor provides a bed-and-breakfast alternative with private baths and a fireside common area. For any valley stay, plan the winter journey to the resort and check whether the current shuttle stops suit the specific property; transport is not automatically included with a room.
