THE REGION

Heavenly links a large ski area across the California–Nevada line above South Lake Tahoe. Lake-view pistes, tree-lined runs and expert terrain offer different ways to spend the day. The village gondola, California Lodge, Boulder and Stagecoach are distinct entry points; wind, lift operation and open connections affect how you move between them.

THE LOCAL SCENE

Heavenly’s dining choices stretch beyond a single base village: a quick meal at the gondola top, a group pizza stop in Heavenly Village, a lakefront dinner at The Edge, or the community bar scene in Meyers. Pick the setting that suits the evening and plan transport between these different parts of the south shore.

GETTING THERE

Reno-Tahoe is the main nearby airport; Sacramento offers another road approach over the Sierra. Compare airport transfers with driving and allow extra time for winter conditions. Follow current California and Nevada road reports and traction requirements.

Choose your mountain base before choosing parking. California-base parking uses reservations on weekends and peak dates, while Nevada bases and village garages have different arrangements. The village gondola can suit a nearby stay, but check its operation before relying on it. Resort shuttles and local transit offer alternatives; plan the final return to the base where you started.

WHEN TO GO

Midwinter suits a snow-focused trip, while later winter and spring can bring softer snow and longer days. Weather and wind affect open lifts and mountain connections. Keep early- and late-season plans flexible and use the current operating report for your dates.

BEYOND THE SLOPES

The region offers much more than skiing. Here's what else to explore:

🏔️

Heavenly scenic gondola

Outdoor

A separate sightseeing option from Heavenly Village for lake views. Check sightseeing access and wind-dependent operation.

🎭

Stateline entertainment

Culture

Compare current concerts, shows and casino-hotel dining around Stateline for an evening after skiing.

🏔️

Winter walks and snowshoeing

Outdoor

Choose an appropriate local route for the day’s conditions, with rental equipment and route advice arranged before setting out.

🧘

Spa Edgewood

Wellness

Book a treatment at the lakefront resort and check the facilities included with your appointment.

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦

M.S. Dixie II sightseeing cruise

Family

A lake-view outing departing from Zephyr Cove. Check the sailing calendar and weather arrangements for your visit.

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦

Winter tubing

Family

Heavenly lists tubing among its winter activities; check current access and participation requirements.

WHERE TO STAY

Choose around the Heavenly base you plan to use. In Heavenly Village, Marriott Grand Residence Club offers guest rooms, studios with kitchenettes and residences with full kitchens; Forest Suites adds suite space, while Hotel Becket combines rooms, breakfast and a tavern. Budget Inn is a motel option opposite the gondola, and Mellow Mountain Hostel on Cedar Avenue has private rooms, dorms and a shared kitchen within walking distance of the village. Heavenly Valley Lodge offers cabin-style rooms on Ski Run Boulevard, with a resort shuttle and access to the California ski base. Confirm current transport, the selected room’s cooking facilities and seasonal amenities before booking.

THE FOOD SCENE

For a meal during the ski day, Tamarack Lodge sits at the top of the gondola and serves quick-service breakfast and lunch. In Heavenly Village, Base Camp Pizza is a casual group option for pizza, pasta and salads.

For a more dressed-up dinner, The Edge Restaurant & Lounge at Edgewood Tahoe pairs seasonal dining with a lakefront setting; check its booking and dress guidance. The Divided Sky in Meyers offers a separate bar-and-restaurant outing along US50, with a community atmosphere and live-music program.

APRÈS & NIGHTLIFE

Bar 9150 inside Tamarack Lodge offers mountain-day drinks; plan around service and gondola return times. Down in Heavenly Village, Base Camp Pizza combines a casual meal with a patio music program. The Divided Sky is in Meyers, so treat it as a separate outing with return transport arranged.

INSIDER TIPS

  • 💡Choose the same starting and finishing base, then plan your route across the mountain accordingly.
  • 💡Reserve California-base parking when required, or compare the other bases and transit options.
  • 💡Ridge Run and California Trail are useful lake-view cruising choices when open.
  • 💡Mott and Killebrew are expert-terrain choices; follow current openings and patrol instructions.
