THE REGION

Jack Frost sits in the rolling, forested hills of the Pocono Mountains in northeastern Pennsylvania, just off I-80 in White Haven. The Poconos have been a popular escape from the Philadelphia and New York metro areas for generations, originally famous for their honeymoon resorts and later evolving into a year-round outdoor recreation region. Jack Frost, paired with its sister resort Big Boulder, offers traditional ski terrain on a series of broad, well-groomed slopes cut through dense hardwood forest. The surrounding landscape is defined by gentle ridges, lakes, and the dramatic Lehigh River gorge nearby.

THE LOCAL SCENE

A Jack Frost visit can stay centred on the lodge or extend into Lake Harmony for a meal. The café and E2000 offer convenient mountain breaks, while Shenanigans brings a restaurant-and-bar setting and Nick’s Lake House adds a lakeside table. Leave time for the drive and check your chosen venue’s service before setting out.

GETTING THERE

Use 434 Jack Frost Mountain Road, White Haven for the Jack Frost arrival. From I-80 Exit 284, follow Route 115 north and Route 940 west to the signed entrance; the Turnpike approach uses Route 940. Allow for winter roads and busy arrival periods.

The Circle provides a passenger and equipment drop-off before you park. The lodge and parking are at the top of this top-down mountain. Follow attendants and choose the Jack Frost location on lesson and rental bookings; Big Boulder has its own separate arrival.

WHEN TO GO

Plan a winter visit around the operator’s calendar and open terrain. January and February are useful broad choices; snowmaking supplements natural snow. For evening skiing, check Big Boulder’s schedule and plan the separate drive. Jack Frost is the daytime mountain in the pairing.

BEYOND THE SLOPES

The region offers much more than skiing. Here's what else to explore:

🏔️

Lehigh Gorge State Park

Outdoor

Explore the Lehigh Gorge Trail from a designated park access point. Match walking, cycling or winter cross-country plans to trail conditions.

🎭

Jim Thorpe Historic Walking Tour

Culture

Stroll through the Victorian-era streets of Jim Thorpe, visiting the Asa Packer Mansion, galleries, and unique shops.

🏔️

Whitewater Rafting on the Lehigh River

Outdoor

Plan a separate warm-season outing with an outfitter, matching the trip to river conditions, release schedules and your group’s experience.

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦

Pocono Raceway Area Attractions

Family

Compare scheduled race events and driving experiences for a warmer-season visit. Use the raceway calendar rather than assuming year-round walk-up activities.

🍽️

Pocono Brewery Trail

Dining

Sample craft beers from a growing collection of Pocono-area breweries including Barley Creek Brewing Company and others.

WHERE TO STAY

Compare named regional bases with the daily journey to Jack Frost in mind. Split Rock Resort sits between Jack Frost and Big Boulder, offering several room and suite formats plus off-slope activities. The Chateau is in Tannersville by Camelback, while Hampton Inn & Suites Stroudsburg Pocono Mountains is an I-80 hotel base with breakfast and an indoor pool; both require a separate journey to Jack Frost.

A Pocono cabin, lake house or mountain-home rental can suit a self-catering group. Check the actual address, winter road and parking arrangements, kitchen and sleeping layout, and any claimed slope access for the individual rental. Choose regional towns for their atmosphere and evening plans without assuming a fixed drive time or included ski shuttle.

THE FOOD SCENE

Jack Frost Café handles quick breakfast and lunch inside the Main Lodge. E2000 on the upper level offers a full-service restaurant and bar when you want a sit-down mountain break.

For an off-mountain meal, Shenanigans is in Lake Harmony, with casual American food and dine-in or takeout service. Nick’s Lake House at 20 South Lake Drive adds a lakeside restaurant and bar; it operates without reservations. Plan the journey between the resort and your town meal.

APRÈS & NIGHTLIFE

E2000 provides a restaurant and bar inside Jack Frost’s Main Lodge; check its seasonal service before counting on a stop. Shenanigans is a separate Lake Harmony outing for food, drinks and scheduled entertainment. Nick’s Lake House is another town option by the lake. Arrange transport around the evening you choose.

INSIDER TIPS

  • 💡Start from the summit-area lodge and plan the lifts needed to return to your car.
  • 💡Choose your lesson and rental location carefully: Jack Frost and Big Boulder are separate arrivals.
  • 💡Add Jim Thorpe as a separate outing for shops, historic streets and dining.
  • 💡Allow fitting and check-in time before a booked lesson.
