THE REGION

The Front Range is Colorado's most accessible high-country destination, where the Great Plains meet the Rocky Mountains. This region stretches from Denver north through Boulder and includes some of North America's highest ski terrain. Clear, sunny days dominate the weather pattern, and the Continental Divide creates dramatic above-treeline skiing. The area blends mountain wilderness with urban amenities — Denver's culture, restaurants, and nightlife are minutes away from world-class skiing.

THE LOCAL SCENE

Georgetown, the nearest town, is a charming Victorian mining village with galleries, antique shops, and local charm. Loveland's base has limited dining — most visitors bring food or eat at the Ptarmigan Roost. Après-ski at Loveland is low-key; many head to Georgetown or Boulder. Boulder's Pearl Street offers world-class dining, craft breweries, and nightlife. The Front Range celebrates outdoor culture with farmers markets, yoga studios, and farm-to-table restaurants. Food scenes in nearby Boulder and Denver are exceptional.

GETTING THERE

From Denver, stay on I-70 west and use Exit 216 just before the Eisenhower Tunnel. There is no need to drive over Loveland Pass to reach the ski area. From Silverthorne, approach on eastbound I-70 through the tunnel. Use the base named in your booking. Parking and a shuttle serve Basin and Valley, so allow time if equipment or members of your group are at the other base.

WHEN TO GO

If a day on the Ridge is the priority, check Lift 9, the open terrain and Ridge Cat status on the morning of your trip. An operating lower mountain does not guarantee access along the Divide. For early or late visits, check which base is open for lessons, rentals and skiing.

BEYOND THE SLOPES

The region offers much more than skiing. Here's what else to explore:

🎭

Georgetown Loop Historic Railroad

Culture

Scenic narrow-gauge railroad through mountain passes (operates summer-fall)

🏔️

Front Range Hiking & Rock Climbing

Outdoor

Access to trails ranging from easy creek walks to technical alpine scrambles

🎭

Boulder Pearl Street District

Culture

Walkable shopping, dining, and cultural venues with live music and galleries

🏔️

Backcountry Touring on the Divide

Outdoor

Access to extensive backcountry skiing and snowshoeing along the Continental Divide

WHERE TO STAY

Georgetown Lodge puts you east of Loveland for the approach up I-70. West of the Eisenhower–Johnson tunnels, Silverthorne offers dorm beds and private rooms at The Block or a hotel stay with breakfast at Hampton Inn & Suites. Keystone Lodge & Spa suits trips that include days at Keystone. Its shuttle serves Keystone, so arrange the Loveland journey separately. Allow extra time for winter traffic and road conditions.

INSIDER TIPS

  • 💡For a lesson, use the base and meeting point on the reservation.
  • 💡Ridge Cat access is available to eligible ticket or pass holders when conditions permit. Check the operator’s day-ticket and season-pass procedures before heading to Lift 9.
  • 💡Compare an east-side stay in Georgetown with a Summit County stay west of the tunnel. The I-70 journey is different in each direction.
