VAL RENDENA, TRENTINO

Madonna di Campiglio is Trentino's crown jewel — a glamorous ski resort at 1,550 m nestled between the Brenta Dolomites (a UNESCO World Heritage site)...

THE REGION

Madonna di Campiglio is Trentino's crown jewel — a glamorous ski resort at 1,550 m nestled between the Brenta Dolomites (a UNESCO World Heritage site) and the Adamello-Presanella glacier range. With 150 km of pistes connected to Pinzolo and Folgarida-Marilleva via the Skirama Dolomiti Adamello Brenta circuit, it offers both stunning scenery and superbly groomed terrain.

Once a favorite retreat of Empress Sissi and the Habsburg court, Madonna di Campiglio retains an air of alpine elegance. The pedestrian village center is lined with designer boutiques, gourmet restaurants, and luxury hotels. Yet the Brenta Dolomites backdrop — jagged towers of pale rock rising above dark pine forests — gives it a dramatic natural setting unmatched in the Italian Alps.

THE LOCAL SCENE

Madonna di Campiglio exudes Italian Alpine glamour. The evening passeggiata — strolling the illuminated pedestrian center in stylish ski wear — is a cherished ritual. The Brenta Dolomites provide a dramatic backdrop of pink-hued rock at sunset. The area has strong ties to mountaineering history and the Via delle Bocchette climbing route through the Brenta.

GETTING THERE

Trento is a rail gateway for the bus through Val Rendena to Pinzolo and Madonna di Campiglio. Fly Ski Shuttle also serves selected airports in winter. Choose the stop nearest your accommodation and check the connection for your arrival day before booking flights.

WHEN TO GO

For the floodlit slalom, plan around the 3Tre organiser’s race calendar. For a skiing trip, use the lift report to see which links between Campiglio, Pinzolo and Folgarida–Marilleva will be open. Midweek gives you more flexibility to choose a base and a restaurant.

BEYOND THE SLOPES

The region offers much more than skiing. Here's what else to explore:

Spa & Wellness Hotels

Wellness

Luxury hotel spas including Bio Hotel Hermitage and Hotel Bertelli offer pool, sauna, and treatment packages

WHERE TO STAY

Bio Hotel Hermitage and Hotel Crozzon offer rooms, suites and wellness facilities in Madonna di Campiglio. For a self-catering stay in Pinzolo, compare the three-bedroom apartments at Residence Alpen and plan your route to the lift you want to use. Rifugio Lago Nambino is a different kind of stay, beside a lake above Campiglio. Guests walk the final approach, so check winter conditions and arrange luggage transport with the refuge before you arrive.

THE FOOD SCENE

Cascina Zeledria makes a mountain meal of soapstone-grilled meat, vegetables and polenta. For a special dinner, reserve Stube Hermitage at the Biohotel Hermitage for its tasting menu in a wood-lined room.

APRÈS & NIGHTLIFE

Meet for cocktails at Bar Suisse on Piazza Righi in the village. If the plan includes a full dinner, reserve a table separately.

INSIDER TIPS

  • 💡Ride the Groste gondola on a clear day for the most stunning Brenta Dolomite panorama in Trentino
  • 💡Time your visit for the 3TRE World Cup event — watching night slalom under floodlights is electrifying
  • 💡Walk the evening passeggiata through the illuminated center — it is the quintessential Italian ski village experience
