arrival planning

Approximate planning ranges; allow extra time for traffic and winter conditions.

Edmonton is a useful gateway for Jasper via the Yellowhead Highway. Treat arrival as a substantial travel day, with a separate drive from Jasper town to Marmot Basin. Calgary is another starting point, but the Icefields Parkway makes route and winter-condition planning especially important.

Jasper is the accommodation base for the options in this guide. Compare driving with current transfer services, including the town-to-mountain journey. Use official road and park information when choosing your route, and allow extra time for early-season access-road work noted by Marmot.
