VALAIS, 4 VALLÉES

THE REGION

Nendaz is the friendly, family-oriented gateway to the 4 Vallées — Switzerland's largest interconnected ski domain spanning 410 km of pistes from Mont Fort (3,330m) to the Rhône Valley. Perched on a sunny terrace at 1,365m, the village of Haute-Nendaz offers a genuine community atmosphere with modern amenities, outstanding panoramic views over the Rhône Valley, and direct gondola access to the Verbier ski area. Nendaz is also the capital of bisses — the region's historic irrigation channels that serve as walking and snowshoe trails. The balance of excellent skiing, reasonable prices, and authentic village character makes it one of the best-value bases in the Valais.

THE LOCAL SCENE

Nendaz proudly preserves its Valais heritage. The village celebrates traditional alpine culture through events like the Fête des Bisses and the Combats de Reines (cow fighting festivals). The resort is the official capital of bisses, with seven historic irrigation channels originating from the village. Local pride in Valais products — raclette cheese, Fendant wine, viande séchée — is evident in every restaurant and market.

GETTING THERE

Take the train to Sion and continue by PostBus to Haute-Nendaz. In winter, a local shuttle links the Tracouet gondola with Siviez. Pick the stop closest to your accommodation and confirm the service for the first and last ski day.

WHEN TO GO

Check the lift links and open pistes for the sectors you want to ski. For an easy walking day, the tourism office identifies a prepared winter section of Bisse du Milieu toward Bleusy.

BEYOND THE SLOPES

The region offers much more than skiing. Here's what else to explore:

🏔️

Bisse Walks

Outdoor

Follow the marked winter section of Bisse du Milieu toward Bleusy. Check the current route status before setting out.

🏔️

Night Skiing & Tobogganing

Family

Check the winter events calendar for any evening skiing or toboggan programme and arrange the return journey.

WHERE TO STAY

For the Tracouet gondola, MAD Mount has cabin-style rooms and a spa, while Hôtel Les Etagnes has connecting family rooms next to the departure station. Hôtel Nendaz 4 Vallées & Spa is another central choice with pools. Compare a specific Mont Rouge apartment if you plan to cook. For a quieter stay with a car, Auberge Les Bisses sits between Haute-Nendaz and Siviez.

THE FOOD SCENE

Plan a mountain lunch at Restaurant de Tracouet, at the gondola’s upper station. Back in Haute-Nendaz, Le Grenier faces the gondola departure and serves cheese specialties and meat on hot stone. Le Mont-Rouge on route de la Télécabine is a more formal choice for seasonal cooking.

APRÈS & NIGHTLIFE

Bar l’Edelweiss is right at the foot of the Tracouet piste, a useful place to meet after skiing. Check its program for live music. For a sit-down meal nearby, head to Le Grenier across from the gondola.

INSIDER TIPS

  • 💡Take the shuttle between Haute-Nendaz and Siviez when the on-snow route would be too demanding for the group.
  • 💡For a winter bisse outing, choose the signed route toward Bleusy and check its opening notice.
  • 💡Take the bus down to Sion for its old town and castle hills if you want a day off skis.
