THE REGION

The ski area straddles Lombardy and Trentino, from the villages of Temù and Ponte di Legno to Passo Tonale and the Presena glacier. The high terrain offers a different experience from the wooded lower sectors. The White War museum in Temù describes the First World War fighting in these mountains.

THE LOCAL SCENE

Pontedilegno-Tonale has a proud, unpretentious character shaped by its mountain community and wartime history. Ponte di Legno is a charming Lombardia village with stone architecture and a lively piazza. The Tonale Pass, by contrast, is a functional ski station. The WWI heritage — including the ongoing glacier archaeology that reveals artifacts as ice retreats — gives the area a unique historical dimension.

GETTING THERE

From the west, rail travelers use Edolo on the Brescia–Iseo line, then a bus toward Temù or Ponte di Legno. Check the onward connection if you are staying at Passo Tonale. From Trentino, approach the pass through Val di Sole. Allow weather margin on the mountain road.

WHEN TO GO

Plan for a winter ski trip and check the dates for each sector. The high Presena lifts and the lower links can operate on different schedules. For the full descent to Ponte di Legno, confirm that the connecting pistes are open that day.

BEYOND THE SLOPES

The region offers much more than skiing. Here's what else to explore:

🎭

Museo della Guerra Bianca

Culture

Visit the permanent exhibition in Temù on First World War fighting in the Adamello mountains. Check museum opening days.

🏔️

Presena Glacier Skiing

Outdoor

Explore the glacier sector when the lifts are running. The full descent toward Ponte di Legno includes the black Paradiso piste.

🎭

WWI Trench Walk

Culture

Ask about open, guided historical routes in the high mountains. Snow conditions and seasonal lift access shape which sites can be visited.

🏔️

Snowshoe in Adamello Park

Outdoor

Guided snowshoe excursions into the Adamello Natural Park with glacier views and alpine wildlife

WHERE TO STAY

Ponte di Legno gives you village restaurants and nearby lifts. Compare Hotel Mignon for local cooking, Garnì Pegrà for a room with breakfast, and Adamello Resort for an apartment. Elsewhere in the ski area, Hotel Adamello is in Temù and Albergo Alpino is in Vermiglio on the Val di Sole side. Check the journey to your chosen lift when comparing those valley bases with Passo Tonale.

THE FOOD SCENE

The glacier has several distinct stops, including Capanna Presena at the middle gondola station. Selfservice Serodine sits at the foot of the Cadì and Serodine pistes on the pass. In Ponte di Legno, Al Maniero serves Alta Valle Camonica dishes and pizza.

APRÈS & NIGHTLIFE

For a drink on the pass, meet at Serodine before your journey down. If you are staying in Ponte di Legno, Al Maniero makes an easy dinner in town.

INSIDER TIPS

  • 💡Visit the White War museum in Temù for the history of the high-altitude front.
  • 💡Check the black Paradiso section before setting out on the full glacier-to-town descent.
  • 💡The town thermal centre is under construction. Confirm opening before planning a spa visit.
