Schruns, St. Gallenkirch and Gaschurn serve different parts of the Montafon valley. Silvretta Montafon reaches 2,430 metres, with Hochjoch and Nova forming the linked ski area. Golm is another mountain in the valley and requires a separate approach.
The Montafon valley preserves Walser culture — the heritage of medieval settlers from the Swiss Valais. Traditional wooden farmhouses, local dialect, and artisanal cheese-making define the valley character. Schruns was a favored retreat of Ernest Hemingway, who wrote parts of 'The Sun Also Rises' here in the winters of 1925-26.
Zurich Airport (ZRH) is 160 km west, about 2 hours by car via Feldkirch. Innsbruck Airport (INN) is 140 km east via the Arlberg tunnel. Friedrichshafen Airport (FDH) is 100 km northwest. Schruns has a railway station with connections from Bludenz (15 min). The Montafon valley road (L188) leads south from Bludenz.
Midwinter is a common choice for cold-snow skiing, while spring offers longer afternoons. The operator publishes lift-specific dates: Valisera, Grasjoch, Hochjoch and Zamang can have different opening periods. Check the lift serving your accommodation before booking early or late in the season.

For a camper trip, book a designated site that confirms winter stays for your vehicle and dates.
Nova Stoba is the mountain restaurant for a Silvretta Montafon lunch. In the valley, look for Montafoner Sura Kees, the regional sour cheese. If skiing at Golm on another day, Haus Matschwitz is beside the middle station of the Golmerbahn.
Nova Stoba holds scheduled après music events. Check the programme and last valley descent before staying for a set; if your group wants a longer evening, meet back in its valley base.
