THE REGION

The Skicircus spans four village bases across Salzburg and Tyrol. Saalbach and Hinterglemm are in the Glemmtal, while Leogang and Fieberbrunn have separate valley approaches. Ski connections make it possible to visit several sectors in a day when the lifts are running.

THE LOCAL SCENE

Saalbach-Hinterglemm is Austria's fun factory — a resort where serious skiing meets a party spirit. The village is car-free in the center, lined with boutiques, bars, and restaurants. The Hinterglemm side is more relaxed and family-friendly. The area hosts the iconic Saalbach après-tradition of skiing and partying in equal measure.

GETTING THERE

For Saalbach or Hinterglemm, take the train to Zell am See or Maishofen and continue on bus 680. If your accommodation is in Leogang or Fieberbrunn, plan the connection to that village rather than heading into the Glemmtal by default. Check the guest-mobility ticket’s coverage and registration with your accommodation.

WHEN TO GO

Midwinter usually favours colder snow, while spring brings longer days and sunny hut terraces. The planned 2026–27 ski period runs from late November to early April, subject to conditions. Check sector connections separately when planning an early or late circuit.

BEYOND THE SLOPES

The region offers much more than skiing. Here's what else to explore:

🍽️

Skicircus Hut Safari

Dining

Ski between 60+ mountain huts on the famous hut-to-hut culinary circuit across the four villages

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦

Reiterkogel Rodelbahn

Family

Illuminated evening toboggan run from Reiterkogel down to Hinterglemm — 3 km of night sledding fun

🏔️

Fieberbrunn freeride heritage

Outdoor

Wildseeloder is associated with the Freeride World Tour. For off-piste skiing, arrange a qualified guide and check avalanche conditions.

🧘

Hotel wellness in Saalbach

Wellness

Several village hotels offer pools and saunas. Confirm guest or day-spa access with the property.

🎭

Saalbach Village Nightlife

Culture

Visit the village for drinks after skiing, or plan a live-music stop at Hinterhagalm on the Kohlmais side during service.

WHERE TO STAY

Stay in central Saalbach for village restaurants and lift access. Hotel Saalbacher Hof has several dining options, while JUFA Alpenhotel has family apartments and ski lockers near the Schattberg X-press. For a night on the mountain, Hochwartalm has rooms beside the Schönleiten mid-station. Ask about luggage and arrival before booking there. Hinterglemm, Leogang and Fieberbrunn have separate village bases, so choose your overnight location with the evening journey in mind.

THE FOOD SCENE

Choose a hut in the sector you are skiing: Hinterhagalm above Saalbach, Pfefferalm on Hinterglemm’s Reiterkogel or Alte Schmiede at the Asitz in Leogang. Alte Schmiede has hut food and wood-fired pizza beside the upper gondola stations.

APRÈS & NIGHTLIFE

On the Kohlmais descent, Hinterhagalm is an established stop for live music after skiing. Check the programme and your return route, especially if you are staying in Leogang or Fieberbrunn.

INSIDER TIPS

  • 💡Compare the full Challenge with a shorter village circuit. Leave time for lift connections and turn back before the final return lift.
  • 💡Hinterhagalm is on the Kohlmais valley run, Pfefferalm is on Reiterkogel and Alte Schmiede is on Leogang’s Asitz. Choose lunch near the day’s skiing.
  • 💡If planning off-piste terrain on the Fieberbrunn side, arrange a qualified local guide and check the avalanche bulletin.
