THE REGION
The Thompson Okanagan region occupies British Columbia's interior plateau—a landscape of rolling hills, deep valleys, and semi-arid climate that feels worlds away from the coastal rainforests. This is ranch country, where the cattle industry dates back to the 1860s gold rush era.
Sun Peaks sits in the Shuswap Highland, where the Thompson Plateau begins rising toward the Monashee Mountains. The terrain around the resort shows the classic interior BC pattern: dense forests of lodgepole pine and spruce, punctuated by alpine meadows and the occasional rocky outcrop.
The area's dry interior climate produces a distinctive snow quality—lighter and drier than coastal BC, though not quite as cold as Alberta. The resort benefits from consistent snowfall without the maritime moisture that can make coastal snow heavy.
