THE REGION

Veysonnaz looks over the Rhône valley above Sion. Its gondola reaches the Thyon sector of the 4 Vallées, with beginner terrain near the top and race terrain down to Mayens de l’Ours. For a longer tour, check open links and the time back to your own gondola.

THE LOCAL SCENE

Veysonnaz is an authentic Valais village that happens to have excellent ski lifts. Traditional timber chalets, a small church, and a tight-knit community give it a genuine alpine character. The village celebrates Valais traditions including carnival processions, Hérens cow festivals, and communal cheese-making. Proximity to Sion — the cantonal capital and Switzerland's sunniest city — adds cultural depth and accessibility.

GETTING THERE

From Geneva, continue by train to Sion, then use the daily bus connection from Sion railway station to Veysonnaz. By road, take the Sion-Ouest exit of the A9 towards Nendaz and follow signs for Veysonnaz. The resort is about 13 km from the motorway exit.

WHEN TO GO

Midwinter suits a ski-focused stay. Longer spring days allow time for a terrace lunch, but the lower descents can soften quickly. Check race closures, snow conditions and inter-sector links on the day.

BEYOND THE SLOPES

The region offers much more than skiing. Here's what else to explore:

🏔️

Winter Hiking

Outdoor

Cleared winter walking paths through the forest above the village with views over the Rhône Valley to the Bernese Alps

WHERE TO STAY

Hôtel Magrappé stands at the foot of the slopes near the Veysonnaz gondola. Hôtel Chalet Royal is a short walk away and has balcony rooms and a spa. For your own kitchen, compare Karin Praz’s small Chalet Au Village studio with the apartments and chalets offered through Alpvision. Chalet des Alpes is a separate mountain stay at Prarion in the Isérables area. Confirm arrival and luggage arrangements if you choose it over a village base.

THE FOOD SCENE

La Remointze serves Valais dishes and local produce in the Mayens de Veysonnaz. La Terrasse, between the village and ski station, has both a brasserie and a more formal dining room.

APRÈS & NIGHTLIFE

The bar at La Terrasse makes a convenient local meeting point for a drink or dinner. If your evening takes you to Sion or another valley village, arrange road transport and check the return timetable.

INSIDER TIPS

  • 💡Check whether the Piste de l’Ours is open to the public, and remember that it finishes at Mayens de l’Ours.
  • 💡Use Inalpe near the gondola arrivals for a gentle warm-up.
  • 💡Combine a ski trip with a visit to Sion and the vineyards of the Rhône valley.
