Another season up here

BEYOND WINTER

In summer, walk from Männlichen to Kleine Scheidegg on the Panorama Trail or climb the Royal Walk from Männlichen to the summit.

Before you go: Check trail status and the return timetable before setting off. High trails can retain snow after the valley has turned green.

THE REGION

Grindelwald and Wengen sit on opposite sides of the Kleine Scheidegg railway pass. They share a ski area, while Grindelwald-First and Mürren-Schilthorn have separate approaches, slopes and operating calendars.

THE LOCAL SCENE

Grindelwald works well for travelers who want road access and a choice of mountain departures. Wengen is a car-free village above the Lauterbrunnen valley, with rail connections from the valley floor.

GETTING THERE

Travel by train to Interlaken Ost. For Grindelwald, take the branch to Grindelwald Terminal for the gondolas or continue to the village. For Wengen, take the Lauterbrunnen branch and change there to the Wengernalp Railway. If driving to a Wengen hotel, unload at the Lauterbrunnen car park and carry your luggage onto the train.

WHEN TO GO

For a trip crossing between both sides, choose dates when both sector timetables overlap. During the January Lauberhorn races, check train arrangements and course closures before choosing where to stay.

BEYOND THE SLOPES

The region offers much more than skiing. Here's what else to explore:

🏔️

Männlichen to Kleine Scheidegg

Outdoor

Walk the summer Panorama Trail toward the Eiger, then take the train back to your village.

🎭

Lauberhorn races in Wengen

Culture

Watch World Cup racing on the Wengen side. Use the organizer’s spectator program to choose a viewing area and rail connection.

WHERE TO STAY

Choose Wengen for a car-free stay with arrivals by train. Choose Grindelwald for direct road access, and check the distance to the Terminal when comparing hotels. For a camper trip, book an authorized campsite. Grindelwald prohibits camping in its car parks.

THE FOOD SCENE

Kleine Scheidegg is a useful lunch meeting point for people arriving from either village by train. Check which platform or lift you need after lunch before choosing a table. In Wengen, book dinner in the village if you would rather walk back to your hotel than plan around an evening train.

APRÈS & NIGHTLIFE

Base your evening on the side where you sleep. Skiers staying in Wengen can leave the skis at the hotel and walk through the village. If you are traveling back to Grindelwald, check the valley rail connections before lingering after the lifts close.
