THE VIBE
Nakiska was built for the 1988 Calgary Winter Olympics and remains the closest real mountain to Calgary at just 80 minutes from the city. It is known for immaculately groomed corduroy, excellent racing programs, and long consistent fall-line runs. The snowfall is modest by Canadian Rockies standards, but the snowmaking is extensive. Kananaskis Country provides a spectacular mountain setting. It lacks the steeps and powder of nearby resorts but excels at what it does: fast, groomed, accessible skiing.
Best For
- βCalgary families
- βRace program participants
- βGroomer-loving intermediates who value short drive times
Skip If
- βYou want powder and steeps (go to Kicking Horse or Fernie instead)
- βYou expect big snowfall totals
