THE REGION

Rail-served St. Anton am Arlberg sits in the Tyrolean Stanzertal. Skiing ranges from family routes around the resort to demanding marked slopes and separate guided off-piste trips. Above the village, MooserWirt and Krazy Kanguruh are well-established après stops.

THE LOCAL SCENE

St. Anton embodies Austrian Gemütlichkeit with a rebellious edge. The village pulses with energy — traditional Tirolean architecture meets a cosmopolitan international crowd. The après-ski tradition here is legendary, born in the MooserWirt and Krazy Kanguruh bars that have become pilgrimage sites for ski culture worldwide.

GETTING THERE

Innsbruck Airport (INN) is 100 km east, about 75 minutes by car or shuttle. Zurich Airport (ZRH) is 200 km west via the Arlberg Pass or tunnel. St. Anton has its own railway station on the main Innsbruck-Bludenz line with direct connections from Zurich, Innsbruck, and Vienna. Regular ski buses connect the Arlberg villages.

WHEN TO GO

Midwinter is generally the coldest part of the season, while spring offers longer days. Storms, wind and avalanche work can interrupt the high lifts and inter-village links. Check local openings rather than assuming the entire domain follows one calendar.

BEYOND THE SLOPES

The region offers much more than skiing. Here's what else to explore:

🏔️

Ski Arlberg Freeride Routes

Outdoor

Book a guided outing if planning off-piste terrain. The Valluga II summit descent requires a qualified guide and suitable conditions.

🧘

Arlberg WellCom Spa

Wellness

Modern wellness center with indoor/outdoor pools, saunas, and fitness overlooking the mountains

🏔️

Verwalltal Winter Hiking

Outdoor

Scenic snowshoe and winter hiking trails through the Verwall valley nature reserve

🎭

Museum St. Anton

Culture

Exhibits tracing the birthplace of alpine skiing, from Hannes Schneider to modern freeride culture

🍽️

Tirolean Hut Dining

Dining

Choose Verwallstube at the Galzigbahn summit for regional cooking, or a slopeside après venue for a livelier lunch.

WHERE TO STAY

In central St. Anton, Schwarzer Adler and Banyan both have breakfast and spa facilities. Hotel Post offers single rooms through family accommodation. St. Jakob is farther along the valley, where Stanton Hostel has shared cooking facilities. Check the connection to your chosen lift for any stay outside the village centre and confirm the meal plan separately from the room rate.

THE FOOD SCENE

Verwallstube offers a leisurely meal at the top of the Galzigbahn. MooserWirt and Krazy Kanguruh combine mountain food with music. For dinner in the village, the Museum Restaurant-Café serves Austrian cooking in historic surroundings.

APRÈS & NIGHTLIFE

MooserWirt and Krazy Kanguruh are slopeside après venues. At Krazy Kanguruh the terrace is beside runs 29 and 50. Plan the return to your lodging before stopping for drinks, especially near lift closing time.

INSIDER TIPS

  • 💡Hire a qualified guide in advance if you want to ski from the Valluga II summit. It is an off-piste descent conditional on snow and weather.
  • 💡Arrange a meeting place and return plan before stopping for après at MooserWirt or Krazy Kanguruh.
  • 💡Check the separate Rendl sector for a change of scene. Match the route to your group and use marked pistes for independent skiing.
