BEAVER CREEK / VAIL VALLEY

THE REGION

Beaver Creek Resort sits nestled in a secluded valley just west of Avon, Colorado, about 10 miles west of Vail along the I-70 corridor. Opened in 1980 as Vail's upscale sibling, Beaver Creek was designed from the ground up as a luxury destination with meticulous attention to guest experience -- from heated walkways in the village to complimentary fresh-baked cookies handed out during the winter programme. The resort occupies a private, gated community surrounded by national forest land.

The mountain offers about 2,100 acres across three interconnected peaks: Beaver Creek Mountain, Bachelor Gulch, and Arrowhead. The terrain is remarkably well-distributed, with excellent grooming on wide cruising boulevards, world-class mogul runs on Grouse Mountain, and challenging expert terrain in the Birds of Prey area, which hosts annual World Cup downhill races on one of the most demanding courses on the circuit.

THE LOCAL SCENE

Beaver Creek Village feels like an exclusive alpine resort plucked from the Swiss Alps and dropped into the Colorado Rockies. The atmosphere is polished and upscale, but genuinely welcoming. The daily fresh cookie tradition at 3 PM is beloved by families and adults alike. The neighboring town of Avon provides a more down-to-earth counterpart with local restaurants, shops, and affordable lodging. Edwards, a few miles further west, offers a growing food and brewery scene.

GETTING THERE

Eagle County Regional Airport offers the shorter valley transfer; Denver International Airport offers more flight choices with a longer I-70 journey. Compare an arranged airport transfer with driving, allowing plenty of margin for winter weather and traffic.

Choose between village garages and the lower Elk or Bear parking lots. The lower lots connect to the village by shuttle; check the current parking charges and service arrangements. Avon’s town buses also serve the Elk Lot. The Riverfront Express is a separate access option near the Westin in Avon, not a gondola at the Elk Lot.

WHEN TO GO

The Birds of Prey World Cup races in early December bring electric energy to kick off the season. For the best snow and fewest crowds, target early to mid-January after the holiday rush subsides. February is reliably cold with frequent storms. Late March delivers excellent spring skiing conditions with softer snow and sunshine. Avoid Christmas week and Presidents' Day weekend unless you book far in advance and don't mind premium pricing.

WHERE TO STAY

Beaver Creek Village offers luxury slopeside lodging including the Park Hyatt, The Osprey, and Beaver Creek Lodge. Bachelor Gulch is home to the Ritz-Carlton, set mid-mountain with true ski-in/ski-out access. For more affordable options, Avon has a wide range of hotels, condos, and vacation rentals along the free shuttle route. The Westin Riverfront in Avon offers a good balance of quality and value with direct gondola access to the resort.

THE FOOD SCENE

Beaver Creek gives you a choice between a polished dinner and a casual ski-day meal. Splendido at The Chateau suits a special evening; Citrea brings Mediterranean cooking to the heart of the village, while Grouse Mountain Grill serves New American food at The Pines Lodge. On the mountain, Talons is a meal stop at the base of Larkspur. For a cabin meal at Beano’s or Zach’s, confirm reservations and the venue’s seasonal transport arrangements when booking.

APRÈS & NIGHTLIFE

The Dusty Boot in Beaver Creek Village is an easy choice for après snacks or a full meal in a welcoming restaurant-and-bar setting. Coyote Cafe adds Tex-Mex and Mexican food with margaritas, while Citrea suits a sit-down Mediterranean meal as the ski day winds down.
